BTSA’s Action Shooting League (ASL)  gives shooters an opportunity to practice the fundamentals of competitive Action Shooting. (IPSC, USPSA, 3 GUN)

On Thursday evenings and select weekends, participants practice shooting challenging and exciting courses of fire.

Results are scored in PractiScore following rules and regulations based on our affiliate shooting disciplines.  This gives participants a taste of action shooting without the stress of an actual competition.

The ASL is open to both BTSA members and the general public.

Weather permitting, between early spring until late fall, we will shoot from 5:00pm until sunset using specialized action shooting props.

For more information, join our Facebook group (BTSA Action Shooting League) or on PractiScore (Buffalo Target Shooters Association)

Please read the club rule book if attending a league shoot.

First time competitors/new to steel challenge

Please contact steel@btsa.club if you will be coming out for your first steel challenge. When you arrive, please leave all your gear in your vehicle and identify yourself to a match official/person in charge. We will place you on a squad with some experienced competitors to help get you started. We will likely need to split up groups of inexperienced shooters/competitors for both safety and efficiency but will try to keep families together where possible. Please note, when a family member is on the line, they are under the care of the range officer. Please do not distract them from following the RO’s instructions. If the RO is unfamiliar with the operation of your particular firearm, they will ask for assistance as needed. If a shooter would like coaching or advice while you are shooting, please let the RO know and they should be happy to oblige.

    A note regarding classifications

Classifications are used to help competitors measure their success against shooter shooting with a similar ability and skill set. A D class production shooter and a Grand Master rimfire rifle open shooter can’t be equally compared. In order to earn a classification, you must be a current USPSA member and complete any 4 stages using one of the recognized equipment divisions. Most equipment will work with the exception of Center fire handguns from low ready.

    Rule book

The official steel challenge rule book governs all of our matches please make sure to give it a read through so that you are familiar with the rules, commands, and equipment divisions.

    https://scsa.org/rules

    Safety

While no one wants to disqualify (DQ) a shooter, safety is our top priority. If you commit a serious safety infraction, as noted in the rules, you will be done shooting for the day. Any scores completed to that point will stand but you will not be able to continue shooting the match. It will be up to the match director’s discretion as to whether you may remain on the range. If you are permitted to remain to watch friends/family shoot, you may not handle any uncased firearms for the remainder of the day. Example of serious, DQ-able, violation include, but are not limited to, Ammo on the safe table, loaded firearms off the firing line, negligent discharge of a firearm, muzzle sweeping yourself or others, picking up a dropped gun, and dropping a loaded gun during a course of fire.

Fundamentals Class Progress in IPSC shooting often comes down to one thing: mastery of the fundamentals. Many shooters start strong but eventually hit a plateau. The difference between those who continue to improve and those who stagnate isn’t about talent or advanced techniques—it’s about consistently developing the basics. In this class, we focus on the essential skills needed to engage targets with speed and accuracy. We break down each fundamental concept, ensuring a clear understanding of how and why it works. What to expect: • Detailed Explanations: Every aspect of the fundamentals is explained and demonstrated. • Hands-On Practice: Practical drills designed to reinforce each skill. • Training Plans: Guidance on how to practice effectively and track your progress. This class isn’t about flashy techniques or shortcuts. It’s about building a solid foundation that supports long-term improvement. Whether you’re new to IPSC or looking to refine your skills, mastering the fundamentals is the key to consistent performance.

      • Cooking and Hosting

We are looking for both men and women to help make this day a success.

      Why should I volunteer?

BTSA has always depended on its members to perform almost every task needed to make the club work. Historically that has included significant construction projects, every type of maintenance task, organization, and running of matches, courses, youth events, safety programs, not to mention every aspect of administrative work it takes to ensure our Club functions and thrives. Without our volunteers, range fees would be too costly for most people to afford.

There are many reasons why you should help out with this and other events that BTSA has to offer the community. BTSA has various activities throughout the spring, summer, and fall that involve inviting the community out to enjoy the shooting sports. BTSA also raises money through some of these events for various charities.  Without the help of volunteers, this can’t happen.

      • Registration, event operations, supervision (RO)
      • Teaching, training, mentoring
      • Food Services

When you arrive, please leave all your gear in your vehicle and identify yourself to a match official/person in charge.

The Black Badge is a two-day in-depth training course in the safe competitive shooting techniques required not only to compete at IPSC events but to deliver the confidence and expertise to use handguns in the safest possible manner.

It is a mandatory course required to shoot IPSC matches in Canada. IPSC is a dynamic shooting sport where the principles of Accuracy, Speed, and Power are balanced in a unique scoring system. It requires competitors to shoot fast and accurately, often shooting on the move and developing techniques and styles to shave off fractions of a second between shots, during reloads and drawing from the holster.

        Duration (must attend both days):

        ·      Saturday: BTSA Range, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
